Each week, we’ll be spotlighting a different farm stand on the North Fork as it opens. Surrey Lane Vineyard Orchard Farms is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and remains open during apple season until mid-October.
Name: Surrey Lane Vineyard Orchard Farms
Story: Owners David and Liz Shanks purchased the property in December 2011 and opened the farm stand on Memorial Day 2012. They purchased a bus chassis and built the stand on top of it. There, they practice what they like to call frequency farming. Everything is planted with the intention of loving, and they often play love songs and classical music for the seedlings in the greenhouse, believing that the plants respond to the vibration of love and music just like the people. The Shanks hope to share this love in a way that customers can see and taste.
What they offer: Eggplants, onions, garlic and shallots, strawberries, blueberries, black berries, ground cherries, peaches, nectarines, corn, shishito peppers, peppers, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, steak and heirloom tomatoes, red and golden beets, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, a variety of potatoes and flowers. They also sell their grape varieties which include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Rosé, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.
What they will offer: Broccoli, sweet potatoes, winter squash, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and a wide variety of apples including: Macouns, Dandee Reds, Honeycrisp, Fujis, Gala, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious. As a special fall treat, caramel and chocolate apples will be available at the booth and are made by North Fork Chocolate Company.
